Overview

Acuity is seeking a Commercial Lines Staff Underwriter to monitor and ensure consistency in underwriting guidelines, practices, and philosophy. This person will conduct regular audits and communicate findings. He or she will support commercial lines operations through consulting and training. He or she will compose training materials and lead training programs. This individual will serve as a knowledge resource for enhancement of operations and products, contributing to overall strategic direction.

Responsibilities

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Uphold best practices and consistency in underwriting through a variety of audits to ensure uniformity in application of standards, guidelines, and practices; perform special audits as necessary.
  • Create and conduct training programs for both new hires and existing employees, collaborating with line underwriting management on areas of opportunity.  Develop training and resource material, supporting current and emerging topics.
  • Serve as a knowledge resource to line underwriting in the areas of guidelines, risk assessment/selection, best practices, and coverage interpretation.
  • Recommend changes in company policies, practices, and standards related to diverse underwriting requirements.
  • Participate in varied project work, including product innovation, process improvement through system design, as well as vendor and program evaluation, to maximize results.
  • Some travel may be required for situations such as training, professional development, and agency contact.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or extensive direct experience.

 

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 5 years experience in commercial multi-line property and casualty underwriting.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Demonstrate knowledge of sound underwriting practices.
  • Work effectively with people from varied disciplines and settings.
  • Excel in verbal and written communications, and interpersonal interactions.  
  • Exhibit strong critical thinking and analysis skills. 
  • Readily adapt to different conditions while remaining positive and productive.
  • Effectively prioritize, organize, and accomplish tasks.

 This position is classified as exempt.
