Selection and classification of risks within a given underwriting territory.  Major areas of responsibility include the application of our company's underwriting guidelines, use of good judgment and extensive written and oral communication with agents and policyholders.  Must be able to travel and conduct continuing education and training sessions for agents and CSR’s. Assist sales in the management of assigned agents by monitoring the agent profiles and evaluating the quality and characteristics of submitted business as well as adherence to company guidelines.



Four-year degree from an accredited college or university with evidence of high scholastic achievement, or equivalent insurance experience.



At least one year of general insurance experience is preferred; however we will consider someone who has the desire to enter a training program.

  • Review and evaluate applications for new personal lines policies for acceptability and conformance to company underwriting guidelines
  • Review and evaluate policy change requests for acceptability and conformance to company underwriting guidelines
  • Orders, reviews and evaluates applicable underwriting reports
  • Accepts or rejects applications based upon underwriting guidelines
  • Terminates ineligible risks
  • Explains coverages to agents and policyholders
  • Answers other inquiries
  • Requests information from agents and policyholders
  • Reviews adequacy of insurance to value on dwellings and other non-business buildings
  • Conduct post-loss underwriting to determine continued risk eligibility or to offer a continuation with altered terms
  • Participates in agency re-underwriting as necessary
  • Maintain an information file for each agent in his underwriting territory
  • Visits agents in the assigned underwriting territory on a regular basis (some overnight travel may be required)
  • Assist in the management of the agents in your territory by evaluating agent profiles, assessing the quality and overall characteristics of the agent’s book of business and conformance with Acuity guidelines
  • Provide training and education to agents and CSR’s on the Acuity guidelines, products and systems
  • Conduct Acuity continuing education seminars as necessary

  • Performs other duties as assigned
