Acuity is seeking a Special Investigator to work in support of claims personnel to clarify issues of fact regarding claims investigations. In addition, the Special Investigator will utilize resources and available technology to facilitate comprehensive investigations.  Investigations require skill in scene documentation, interviewing and evidence collection/preservation. Lastly the Special Investigator establishes communication and submits fraud referrals to local or state authorities when criminal activity is identified.



  • Ability to research and comprehend state statues and case law.
  • Provide leadership to claims representatives with expertise, training and recommendations on claims.
  • Identify, interpret and collect evidence in accordance with prescribed rules of evidence.  
  • Conduct objective, fair, thorough, unbiased and timely investigation
  • Evaluate the need for and obtain specialized assistance and investigative support.
  • Prepare detailed, concise results of investigations.
  • Appear as a witness and provide testimony at trials and dispositions.
  • Attend courses, seminars and continuing education specific to investigations.
  • Obtain industry certifications related to investigations
  • Maintain a professional atmosphere and appearance while interacting with all stakeholders.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Maintain company property in good working order, request new equipment and secure authorization of repairs.  
  • Maintain good working relationship with all stakeholders.       
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of analytical/investigative tools and databases such as Accurint, ISO Claims Search, PACER, etc.
  • Ability to investigate fire scenes and utilize all safety equipment needed to conduct fire investigations.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.




College degree or equivalent



Minimum 5 years conducting complex investigations in law enforcement or the insurance industry.



  • Thorough knowledge of investigative techniques, procedures and legal proceedings
  • Knowledge on conducting open internet source investigations
  • Strong analytic and reasoning skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • This position is classified as exempt.
